WHY DO I NEED TO ATTEND WEEKLY SESSIONS?

There could be many reasons why your therapist or counsellor has recommended that you need to attend weekly counselling sessions. Here are a few:

Can I have couples counselling on my own? What can I do to save my marriage?
  • To improve your mental health: it could be that you are simply looking to improve your mental health and well-being. Weekly counselling sessions can enable you to develop positive coping mechanisms, find out how to manage stress and make improvements to your overall quality of life.

  • To resolve relationship problems: perhaps you're having problems in your relationship. Regular weekly counselling sessions can help you and your partner learn how to communicate more effectively, to understand each other's perspective and to resolve any issues that could be causing you conflict.

  • To cope with life transitions: it could be that you are going through a major life transition such as bereavement, retirement, or a relationship breakdown. Weekly counselling sessions could help you to adjust to your new reality and learn how to cope with the emotional challenges that could arise.

  • To address mental health concerns: it could be that you are struggling with mental health concerns. These may include anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Your therapist or counsellor may recommend weekly sessions in order to help you to develop coping mechanisms and learn how to best manage your symptoms.

At the end of the day, the decision of whether or not to attend weekly counselling sessions is entirely a personal one. If you find you are struggling with something in your life, counselling can be a good way of seeking support and guidance to help you through it.
